Can you blend sounds into words?

How blending works

Every word is made of little sounds. Say each sound, then push them together and they blend into a whole word. /sh/ /o/ /p/ blends into shop! Sounding out helps you read words you have never seen before.

Drop the sound cubes into the jug in the right order, then pull the blend lever. The blender whirls the sounds together and the word pours out. Read it, then find the picture it matches to win a star.

Same sound, different spellings

One sound can be written in different ways. The /j/ sound is spelled j in jump, g in giraffe, ge in cage and dge in badge — different letters that all say /j/! Knowing them helps you read tricky new words.

Chop it into chunks

Long words are easier in chunks! Run the blender in reverse and it chops a big word into syllables — beats you can clap. fan-tas-tic has three chunks. Every chunk has a vowel sound in it.

Tap to clap the chunks, then watch them split into the jug. Check each chunk has a vowel, then blend them back together to read the whole word and win a star.
